1) Who We Are
TaskShield is a browser extension that helps you stay productive by blocking distracting websites.
2) At-a-Glance Summary
- We do not store personal browsing history on our servers.
- We may use Google Analytics to measure anonymized usage and compatibility (e.g., session length, browser type, screen resolution).
- EcoMode Optional is an affiliate feature supporting tree-planting projects; it is off by default and does not affect core blocking functions.
- EcoMode may load affiliate links/redirects or include non-PII tracking parameters to attribute support; no personally identifiable information (PII) is collected for EcoMode.
- You can use all core features without enabling EcoMode and can disable analytics via opt-out options below.
3) Data We Collect
We follow the principle of data minimization.
Analytics (non-PII)
When analytics are enabled, we use Google Analytics to collect aggregated, anonymized technical information such as:
- Basic interaction events (e.g., feature usage, session length)
- Device/technical data (e.g., browser type/version, OS, screen resolution)
We do not collect content of web pages you visit or your full browsing history.
EcoMode Events (non-PII)
If you enable EcoMode, we may record non-PII events needed for affiliate attribution (e.g., that EcoMode was toggled on, an EcoMode button/link was clicked, and anonymous identifiers supplied by an affiliate network). We do not collect names, emails, or other PII for EcoMode.
4) How We Use Data
- To improve extension stability, device compatibility, and localization planning.
- To understand feature adoption and optimize user experience.
- EcoMode only: to attribute support for tree-planting initiatives through affiliate networks (when enabled).
Analytics and EcoMode events are processed in aggregated or anonymized form where possible.
6) EcoMode (Optional Affiliate Tree-Planting)
What it is: EcoMode is an optional feature that lets your engagement support tree-planting initiatives through affiliate partnerships.
How it works: When you toggle EcoMode on, the extension may display or open affiliate links or use redirect endpoints that include non-PII tracking parameters (e.g., anonymous IDs, campaign/UTM tags) to attribute support. This does not change or expand the site-blocking scope.
Your choice: EcoMode is off by default. All core blocking features fully function without EcoMode. You can disable EcoMode at any time in the extension settings.
Data and privacy: We do not collect PII for EcoMode. We do not store your browsing history. Any affiliate parameters are used solely for attribution and do not personally identify you.
Advertising: EcoMode does not inject ads into pages, replace links, or modify page content beyond its intended feature flow.
7) Permissions & What They Mean
The extension requests only the permissions needed for core functionality (blocking configured sites and running on user-selected domains). We do not read the content of pages except as necessary to enforce blocking rules and do not transmit page content to our servers.
8) Data Retention
Aggregated analytics and EcoMode attribution records (non-PII) may be retained for as long as needed to support product improvement and accurate affiliate accounting, unless a shorter period is required by law or you opt out. When data is no longer necessary, we take steps to delete or de-identify it.
9) Your Choices & Opt-Outs
- Analytics opt-out: You can disable analytics in the extension settings (where available) or block analytics via your browser/privacy tools.
- EcoMode control: EcoMode is off by default and can be enabled/disabled anytime in settings.
- Uninstall: You can remove the extension at any time from your browser’s extensions manager.
10) Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect data. No system is 100% secure; please use up-to-date browsers and security practices.
11) Children
The extension is not directed to children under the age where parental consent is required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
12) Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted by updating the “Effective date” above and, where appropriate, through in-product notices. Your continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
13) Contact
